I have entered an Architectural Visualization competition at 3D Allusions called "Off the Grid Challenge 17". Basically, everyone in the competition is provided a 3D model of a house, and we are to visualize it in a setting where the house is "Off the Grid" and using only self-sustainable techniques. The house provided is the only constant amoung all the contestants. My concept is rather futuristic, below is my initial sketch for the competition.
The house would be on a floating platform, which is anchored to the bottom of a fairly deep waterway with several flexible cables. Along these cables are small tube-like water turbines that use the water current to power the house. These turbines are hollow and blade-less, so they pose little danger to marine life passing by. From what I've found, no technology like this exists now, so this idea may be a bit futuristic. I think that's okay though, I like the idea so far. The setting is a large mountain waterway in Alaska, and the shot would be over-under water.
